If your visa regulations allow you, there is the possibility (but no guarantee), to obtain work as a “Hiwi” at one of the university departments, in particular the engineering departments. A Hiwi job is a student assistant position, and as such, will involve a range of duties that assist the departmental staff with their research and duties. What exactly will be required for each position varies and depends on your supervisor. Available positions are usually advertised on the departmental websites, departmental notice boards, and notice boards around the large lecture halls (e.g. Audimax). There is no specific date when positions become available, therefore interested students should regularly check for new job postings. It is highly unlikely that there are unadvertised Hiwi positions available. Mass emailing of staff members asking for a Hiwi position is not appreciated.
