In this section the capacity and availability of relevant technology is checked. All the five aspects, energy convertors, local/on-borad storage, retail and depot, transport of the fuel and production of fuel are checked on following basis.

  • Capacity to meet user's needs (for example, production of H2, flow of pipe, performance of vehicle)
  • Availability of the technology in hours per year
  • Lifetime of the technology

Below are the submetrics in this section.

OVERALL ASSESMENT OF TECHNOLOGY
Generic Sub Metric Data or Rating Units
Capacity to meet user´s needs (production of H2, flow of pipe, performance of vehicle)
Relative to existing technology
Rating 0-4
Availability of technology (number of hours available per year) Data %
Lifetime of technology
Relative to existing technology
Data %

Task Sub-metric Data or Rating Unit
FUEL (H2) PRODUCTION Measured fuel production/supply
Overall fuel production per year
Data kg fuel / year
Maximum fuel production/supply (capacity)
theoretical output of all facilities
Data kg fuel / year
Number of hours per year energy is available (regular use - maintenance hours, expected repairs & or failure) Data hours / year
RETAIL & DEPOT Measured capacity of retailers and depots
How much fuel can retailers handle?
Data kg fuel/facility
Availability of retailers & depots
How many retailers have adequate capacities?
Data %
Lifetime of technology Data years
TRANSPORT Measured capacity of distribution infrastructure
determines how much fuel can be delivered
Data kg fuel / year
Lifetime of technology Data years
LOCAL/ ON-BOARD STORAGE Measured capacity of local/onboard storage facility
determines the range of a vehicle
Data kg fuel/facility
Cycle time / Capacity (e.g. number of storage replacements)
Does the storage has to be replaced during a vehicle's life?
Data/Rating hours of use / capacity
Lifetime of technology
relative to existing or competing technologys
Data years

ENERGY CONVERTER Capacity to meet user’s needs (e.g. performance & acceleration of vehicle)
determines the size and weight of the energy converter
Rating 0-4
Number of hours per year technology is available
How much time is needed to maintain the enegy converter? Does the energy converter need a rest period?
Data hours/year
Lifetime of technology
relative to other (competing) technologies
Data years
