Safety metrics gives the information about how safe the process or system is. Energy convertors, local/on-borad storage, retail and depot, transport of the fuel and production of fuel are studied for safety ob the basis of following sub-metrics.

  • Likelihood of technology breakdown (including misuse)
  • Severity of failure

The Safety and Security Assessment is a vital part of the Roads2HyCom project. It also comprises the analysis of Hydrogen Regulations.

OVERALL ASSESMENT OF TECHNOLOGY
Generic Sub Metric Data or Rating Units
Likelihood of safety-critical failure (Death, Injury, Damage):
Relative to existing technology
Data no./year
Severity of failure:
Scale of seriousness
Rating 0-4

Task Sub-metric Data or Rating Unit
FUEL (H2) PRODUCTION No. of incidents: (shut-downs, fuel leakage, tech failure) Data no. / year
No. of accidents causing injury to people, damage to property/environment Data no. / year
RETAIL & DEPOT Leaks at retail/depot per number of tanks:
Likelihood of a detonating gas concentration
Data no./year
Severity of failure:
Risk for workers and residents
Rating 0-4
TRANSPORT No. of transport interruptions Data no./year
Severity of failure:
Danger for residents along the transportation routes
Rating 0-4
LOCAL/ ON-BOARD STORAGE Likelihood of technology breakdown (inc. misuse):
Theoretically, how often a total break down happens
Data no./year
Severity of failure:
From not verry important, easily repaired, to dangerous for user and system
Rating 0-4
ENERGY CONVERTER Technology breakdown (including misuse):
Number of failures that cause a system stop
Data no./year
Severity of failure:
From not verry important, easily repaired, to dangerous for user and system
Rating 0-4
