Technology Accessibility
From Roads2HyCom Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Wiki - A Reliable Source of Information - Edited by Technology Experts Only
The Technology Accessibility deals with the availability of the relevant technology for different technical aspects for creating a hydrogen economy. These aspects are, energy convertors, local/on-borad storage, retail and depot, transport of the fuel and production of fuel. All these aspects are evaluated on the basis of following criteria.
- Compatibility with the exiting technology and infrastructure
- Number of technology providers
- Readiness
The submetrics for technology accessibility are given in the following tables
| OVERALL ASSESMENT OF TECHNOLOGY | ||
| Generic Sub Metric | Data or Rating | Units |
| Readiness: Scale of Readiness | Rating | 0-4 |
| Number of Providers: Note restrictive patents, positive effects of competition | Data | no. |
| Compatibility with existing technologies & infrastructures: Scale of Compatibility | Rating | 0-4 |
| Task | Sub-metric | Data or Rating | Unit |
| FUEL (H2) PRODUCTION | Compatibility with existing technologies for large scale production | Rating | 0-4 |
| Number of producers: area-wide supply, competition | Data | no | |
| Possibility of extending existing raffineries: necessary space and capital available? | Rating | 0-4 | |
| RETAIL & DEPOT | Compatibility with existing technologies: Useabiliy of existing depots, transportation, (pre-)sale-structures | Rating | 0-4 |
| Number of Retailers & Depots: area-wide supply | Data | no | |
| Space available for expansion at retailers and depots: Can retailers and depots easily expand their capacities? | Rating | 0-4 | |
| TRANSPORT | Compatibility with existing technologies: New pipelines, tube connections, freight cars, tank lorries needed? need of massive investments? | Rating | 0-4 |
| Number of Transportation providers: How fast is area-wide supply possible? Chances for new entrepreneurs? | Data | no | |
| Possibility of joint transportation with other fuels: Increase of transport efficiency | Rating | 0-4 | |
| LOCAL/ ON-BOARD STORAGE | Compatibility with existing technologies: Indicates if existing technologys and know-how can be used | Rating | 0-4 |
| Number of storage manufacturers: Availability and competition | Data | no | |
| Usability of existing gas tanks: can problems with certification and admittance be avoided? | Rating | 0-4 | |
| ENERGY CONVERTER | Compatibility with existing consumer technologies: Compatibility with for e.g. existing valves, tubes, sealings | Rating | 0-4 |
| Number of companies selling the technology: Indicates the availability of the product | Data | no | |
| Probability of market co-existance with current (competing) technology: Does the technology displace a competing technology? | Rating | 0-4 |
