Introduction

The Aachen Colloquium for Vehicle and Engine Technology, organised by the 'Institut für Kraftfahrwesen Aachen' (ika) and the 'Lehrstuhl für Angewandte Thermodynamik' (LAT) - RWTH Aachen - has gained increasing interest in the automotive world due to its qualified contributions to topical and future research and development. During the last 5 colloquies we have seen an increased number of attendees, peaking at more than 800 guests from more than 20 countries all over the world. The positive experiences have forced us to organise the event annually, which gives us the great honour to invite you already now for 7th Aachen Colloqium to be held October 5-7, 1998.

Interesting engine and vehicle developments will be reported and discussed on the 6th Aachen Colloquium as an answer to the increasing requirements in terms of exhaust gas and energy consumption. Some examples are gasoline and diesel engine concepts, aftertreatment systems for direct injection engines, valvetrain concepts, interior acoustics, materials for chassis, body engineering and engines, alternative drive lines as well as vehicle safety concepts for passenger cars and commercial vehicles.

We are honoured to provide the opportunity in Aachen to initiate a dialogue and to jointly search for better solutions for these important issues of automotive research and development.

On the test track of the ika we will present driveable experimental vehicles, prototypes and systems of participating companies and institutions related to the presented papers. Additionally the colloquium is accompanied by an exhibition in the Eurogress.

We also have prepared an interesting Program for accompanying persons.
