With the convergence of active and passive safety, new potential for the protection of all road users is opening up in the field of integrated safety: The mitigation of accident consequences can be further improved by using information from the pre-crash phase in order to intervene in the closed loop driver/vehicle and tune the protection strategy according to the perceived situation before the crash actually happens. The question which should be answered in this workshop is how biomechanical knowledge can contribute to the development of this research area. The workshop, which is jointly organised by the Integrated Safety Network (ISN)1 and the European Automotive Research Partners Association (EARPA)2, shall provide a forum for exchange and discussion as well as for the presentation of biomechanics and its role for integrated safety features. Open participation is strongly encouraged to facilitate information exchange.
1 ISN is an association created in March 2008 to continue on a self sustained basis the activities of the network of excellence APSN (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)
2 EARPA is the association of automotive R&D organisations bringing together the most prominent independent R&D providers in the automotive sector throughout Europe (www.earpa.org)
