Entwicklung und Herausforderungen

Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Tobias Kuhnimhof (Lehrstuhl und Institut für Stadtbauwesen und Stadtverkehr)

The transport sector is facing major challenges. The dominant issue is still CO2 emissions, which the German transport sector has been unable to reduce over the past three decades. During this time, technical progress has always been counteracted by rising car ownership and mileage. Such rebound effects can also be expected in the future. In the future, however, the issue of land consumption due to settlement and traffic will again gain in importance, which cannot be solved by alternative drives in individual traffic. Against this backdrop, alternative mobility concepts will continue to be central to a change in transportation, in addition to a change in drive systems.
