Automotive design
Since the exterior and interior design has a significant influence on the experience of a vehicle, when developing new innovative vehicle concepts at the ika, the aesthetic design is also considered from the outset in addition to the technical function. The entire development process is accompanied in-house by an automotive designer with a degree in Transportation Design specializing in exterior design from the renowned Pforzheim University of Applied Sciences.
Within the Vehicle Concepts team, work is done in close cooperation with fellow engineers, constructors, aerodynamicists, HMI specialists, prototype builders, and many more the design of the outer skin/ interior of a new vehicle project.
The entire creative process develops from the first sketch on a white sheet of paper, through the definition of harmonious proportions, surface modeling, the rendering process, detail design, functional tests on a mockup i.a. with VR, to the finish of a 1:1 prototype.
The following examples of the design of innovative concept vehicles visualize the work of the design department at the ika – see picture galleries.
