HiVEP
High-Voltage fast-chargig efficient electric vehicle powertrains
The HiVEP project is an innovative initiative aimed at transforming battery electric vehicle (BEV) efficiency and performance through cutting-edge high-voltage powertrain technologies. Focused on mass-market C-segment vehicles, HiVEP introduces powertrain architectures operating above 800 V, integrating ultra-efficient power electronics, advanced SiC semiconductors, Active Winding Reconfiguration, integrated chargers, and rare-earth-free electric machines optimized for high voltages. With high-energy-density batteries featuring a 3.6 C-rate and optimized thermal management, these advancements aim to significantly reduce EV charging times to under 10 minutes, decrease energy demand by 25 %, increase range by 20 %, and enhance driving dynamics. The project prioritizes safety and sustainability by promoting resource efficiency and minimizing the lifecycle footprint through reduced material usage and energy consumption. Additionally, it seeks to maximize affordability by reducing future powertrain costs by 10 – 20 % at mass production levels.
HiVEP is a collaborative effort involving 12 leading European automotive manufacturers, technology providers, and academic institutions. This partnership fosters a comprehensive innovation approach to effectively address technical challenges. The project's ambitious goals are set to significantly cut carbon emissions in the transportation sector, align with global environmental targets, and strengthen Europe’s leadership in sustainable automotive technology. Expected are expected to further catalyze EV innovations, broadening adoption and acceptance.
