Our Meetup series for interested parties presents and discusses current, practice-relevant research topics in the field of automated driving.

Static 3D Object Detection with Deep Learning

At our very first event of the ika-Meetup series, we were pleased to welcome a large audience. More than 100 interested listeners wanted to learn about methods of machine learning for image-based perception of automated vehicles. In his interesting talk, Stefan Elser explained the use of neural networks in image processing for the recognition of static objects. After presenting the possible application scenarios and implementation approaches, he presented the requirements for the data sets in practical examples. The Q&A session then continued with lively discussions on current challenges of automated driving with bagels and beverages.

Dr. Stefan Elser

• is a software developer in the Sensor Technology & Perception System division of the Corporate Research and Development department of ZF Friedrichshafen AG
• deals with the design of algorithms for driver assistance and automated driving with a focus on machine learning, camera sensors and sensor data fusion.
