Modular e-powertrain design

Topic and Goal of the Thesis

Besides range, cost-effectiveness plays a crucial role in powertrain development. Although different platforms (e.g. Modular Electric Drive Modular System / MEB by VW) already exist on the market, most optimisation algorithms described in the literature consider however only one vehicle. Therefore, possible synergies with other vehicles are typically not investigated. The thesis aims to address this research gap by identifying possible modularity approaches and then implementing those in MATLAB as part of an already existing software. Lastly, its functionality must be shown through evaluation on an example of a derived platform.

Working Points

  • Research on the current state of the market (modular systems) and powertrain optimisation
  • Familiarization with the in-house MATLAB software
  • User Interface / GUI for portfolio optimisations
  • Derivation of an evaluation function for synergy assessment on the portfolio level & its implementation in MATLAB
  • Generation of an exemplary platform

Requirements

  • Good English or German language skills
  • Fun at coding
  • knowledge in the area of vehicle powertrains & its components
  • Reliability, commitment and enjoyment of working independently

Note: Please attach brief resume and grade summary.
