From model to reality: Designing realistic test environments in the driving simulator

Topic and Goal of the Thesis

Driving simulators are indispensable tools in the development of modern vehicle systems, as they offer safe and flexible test environments for different traffic situations, but require a high degree of simulation fidelity. An important aspect here is the simulation of surrounding traffic. This must be modeled accordingly.

The objective of this thesis is to investigate how surrounding traffic can be modeled to meet the specific requirements of a driving simulator. To this end, a suitable method is to be developed and implemented.

Working Points

  • Analysis of existing models and methods for traffic flow simulation
  • Identification of the special requirements for traffic flow simulation in the context of driving simulators
  • Development of a concept for microscopic traffic simulation taking these requirements into account
  • Implementation and evaluation of the developed method

Requirements

  • Good knowledge of German or English
  • Independent and structured working style
  • Programming experience in C++ or Python is an advantage
