eMoSys Research Platform

Our eMoSys Research Vehicle is a fully variable electric vehicle in a lattice tube frame design, in which a wide range of parameters can be variably adjusted.

Test carrier

Our eMoSys Research Vehicle was originally developed and built between 2011 and 2014 as part of the joint project of the same name to analyze the future requirements of a vehicle concept for electromobility. The result is a fully variable electric vehicle with a tube frame design in which a wide range of parameters can be variably adjusted. These include:

  • Wheelbase,
  • Track width,
  • Weight / weight distribution,
  • Wheel position and axle kinematics,
  • Suspension and
  • Brake force distribution.

The research platform therefore offers enormous flexibility for analyzing a wide range of issues. The eMoSys is currently undergoing extensive modernization in order to be able to advance further promising research topics with the vehicle. To this end, the vehicle is being equipped with modern RCP hardware for recording and processing relevant driving status parameters and other interesting measured variables. In addition, the HMI peripherals are being updated to enable a user-centered application. In the future, it will be possible to apply drive and braking torques to individual wheels and integrate all-wheel steering with high wheel steering angles. The vision is a by-wire research platform as a tool for the development of vehicle dynamics control systems, components and overall systems.

In the long term, the eMoSys should offer the following features, among others:

  • Recording of wheel speeds, suspension travel, speed, accelerations, rotation rates, body Slip angle, ...
  • Individual wheel drive units (drive-by-wire)
  • Wheel-specific brake force application (brake-by-wire)
  • Wheel-specific steering angles (steer-by-wire)
