Automotive Engineering – Practical Course
The automotive engineering practical course uses practical examples to deepen the teaching content from the basic automotive engineering lectures. Individual systems of motor vehicles as well as test benches including their measurement technology and numerical development tools are presented. Active student participation is the focus of many lab sessions.
Vehicle Systems
- Drive technology of electric vehicles
- Driver assistance systems
- Driving dynamics control systems
- Lighting systems
- Driving behaviour of commercial vehicles
Test Engineering
- Electronic instrumentation
- Determination of inertia parameters and axle kinematics
- Tyre testing
- Crash test
- Driving simulator
- Servo-hydraulic test centre
- Vehicle noise measurement and comfort evaluation
Development Tools
- Finite element analysis
- CAx methods in suspension development
Learning Outcomes
The students should gain an insight into the typical activities of engineers in the development of a motor vehicle. They will be taught the theoretical principles as well as practical approaches to solutions in various domains of the automobile. This includes in particular the following aspects:
- Methods and tools of automotive pre-development
- Test benches
- Validation methods
